I don't want to get *too* Private Ryan Ageing Gif here, but I am old enough to have had, through the 1990s and 2000s, subscriptions to several video game magazines, from *Megazone* to *Hyper* through to *Edge*. And after I switched the latter to an iPad sub around 2012, I haven't had a games magazine delivered to my house since.

That changed last week when my long-awaited copy of *Continue* turned up, and I couldn't be happier. Founded by (disclaimer) former Kotaku AU boss Mark Serrels and Jackson Ryan (who, disclaimer again, [has been published here](https://aftermath.site/gameshub-clickout-media-seo-gambling-ai/)), it's a wonderful collection of journalism, criticism and personal reflections that is serving a very important purpose beyond giving me something to read on the couch and on the toilet (complimentary).

Because while this isn't the only active games magazine on the planet--[APWOT](https://apwot.com/?ref=aftermath.site) and [Lock-On](https://www.lostincult.co.uk/lockon?ref=aftermath.site), for example, are also doing incredible work--it's about the only thing left coming out of Australia after an apocalyptic few years that has seen pretty much every remaining professional site ([the newish TWIVG excepted](https://thisweekinvideogames.com/?ref=aftermath.site)) either shut down or stripped for parts and spare change.

[With Australian Games Media On Its Knees, A New Magazine Is Trying To Keep A Scene Alive'We'll be chasing stories from across the planet'![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/30/f5/30f5b1bb-84ee-4c26-b446-fb9a5e512994/content/images/icon/favicon4-db3f2328-28c9-4c7e-b1c4-c41609f39239.png)AftermathLuke Plunkett![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/30/f5/30f5b1bb-84ee-4c26-b446-fb9a5e512994/content/images/thumbnail/continuemag-c622ca0a-9ade-4f45-a24d-a1cc639b2160.jpg)](https://aftermath.site/australian-video-game-magazine-continue/)

So it was great seeing a home carved out for so many talented local writers and artists in the debut issue, which covers everything from memories of Sydney's Sega World to stories about catastrophic Australian games studio disasters to [Ruby Innes'](https://www.instagram.com/r.ubyinnes/?hl=en&ref=aftermath.site) guide to Weird Little Guys.

An unexpected highlight, though, was the ads. *Continue's* first issue has loads of ads for real Australian games--from [*The Drifter*](https://aftermath.site/the-drifter-point-click-adventure-game-lucasarts-king-carpenter-australia/) to [*Pro Jank Footy*](https://aftermath.site/pro-jank-footy-review-impressions/)\--done in the same style as a 90s or 00s games mag would have published, and every single one of them is a treasure.

While the magazine was originally funded on Kickstarter, [you can still buy copies from Melbourne's ACMI and get them shipped to you if you missed out](https://shop.acmi.net.au/collections/continue?ref=aftermath.site).
