More unions are forming at Wizards of the Coast. [United Wizards of the Coast - Communications Workers of America announced Tuesday](https://unitedwizardsofthecoast.com/news/dnd-studiox-join-uwotc-cwa?ref=aftermath.site) that workers on the *Dungeons & Dragons* and *D&D Beyond* teams and at Studio X, which works on tabletop *Magic: The Gathering* and *Duel Masters*, are asking Hasbro to voluntarily recognize their union by Oct. 13.

"We’re proud to follow in [the footsteps of MTG Arena’s own union](https://aftermath.site/magic-the-gathering-arena-team-unionizes-at-wizards-of-the-coast/), who recently won their union election, and have worked with the MTG Arena union in preparation for today," workers from the union said in a news release. "Now, we get to share it with you all! We are stewards of our games who deserve to be treated with all the respect and dignity that entails."

The workers are asking for fair wages and "defined career progression," job security, reliable healthcare, "sustainable workloads and practices, including remote and hybrid working," AI protections, and "full ownership of the work we create outside of the office."

The *Magic: The Gathering Arena* team announced its union in April, and [won the vote in June](https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/magic-the-gathering-arena-unionize-despite-allegations-of-interference?ref=aftermath.site). Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro declined to voluntarily recognize the union. [Wizards of the Coast employees, at the time, posted letters they received from management](https://aftermath.site/magic-the-gathering-arena-union-letters/) ahead of the election, which discouraged workers from voting yes: "We believe your voice is strongest when it is heard directly," the company wrote. "Not through a third party." Characterizing a union as a third-party representation and not as a bargaining group consisting of fellow workers is a common union-busting tactic.

Wizards of the Coast workers, in Tuesday's announcement, are asking fans to [sign a petition](https://actionnetwork.org/forms/uwotcpetition/?ref=aftermath.site) to show support for the union. The union said in its statement that the "community support for *MTG Arena*'s union was vital to their monumental victory."

"There is so much excitement from our internal teams for this union, not just for the protections it offers us, but for the chance to make our lives and the games we create even better," the union wrote. "In preserving our rights and establishing long-awaited protections for our workers, we hope to make all worlds—both the ones we create and the one we live in—better places. Once recognized, we will begin our bargaining and share additional details with you all as they develop."
