A lot of funny things happened last night during the midterms, in what can only be read as a rejection of the Trump admin specifically, but perhaps the funniest detail is that the composers of both the *Dragon Ball Z* dub and the game *Halo* won and lost their races respectively. America has spoken: Yes to the dub of *Dragon Ball Z*, no to *Halo*.

The incumbent in Nevada’s 3rd district, Democrat Susie Lee, [beat composer](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/11/03/us/elections/results-nevada-us-house-3.html?ref=aftermath.site) and [repeat loser](https://ballotpedia.org/Nevada%27s%5F3rd%5FCongressional%5FDistrict%5Felection,%5F2024%5F%28June%5F11%5FRepublican%5Fprimary%29?ref=aftermath.site) Marty O’Donnell. (O’Donnell previously came in fourth in the 2024 Republican primary, losing to Drew Johnson, who went on to lose to Susie Lee.) O’Donnell co-composed soundtrack for the *Halo* series as well as the first *Destiny* game along with Michael Salvatori–despite how you might feel about whatever soundtracks he put out in the past, he has a fairly awful record politically. He has a history of [wildly sexist comments](https://emilyslist.org/sound-the-alarm/sound-the-alarm-new-reporting-highlights-marty-odonnells-long-record-of-disqualifying-and-sexist-comments/?ref=aftermath.site) and has hosted many questionable guests on his podcast, *The Marty O’Donnell Show,* like British far-right influencer Charles Cornish-Dale aka “Raw Egg Nationalist.” He invited anti-LGBTQ+ guest Liberty University VP Ryan Helfenbein on, who ran with the [bigoted trope that queer people are attempting to “recruit” children](https://www.advocate.com/politics/national/marty-odonnell-anti-lgbtq-nevada?ref=aftermath.site). O’Donnell ran a Discord with a not insignificant number of users who espoused Nazi sympathies, [per a report by the AP](https://apnews.com/article/marty-odonnell-nevada-congress-halo-discord-antisemitism-fc43599012f7f4cfaf90410dff9af9c8?ref=aftermath.site). It’s usually a bad sign for your campaign when the phrase “O’Donnell’s campaign denied he dressed up as Mussolini” appears published anywhere.

Winner Susie Lee went on to dunk on him with a video featuring the *Halo* music. Instead of just ignoring the post and being content with being rich, he had to [quote-tweet](https://x.com/MartyTheElder/status/2117901086279541197?ref=aftermath.site) it with “Susie has a lot of class. And it’s all low.” Absolute loser behavior. Log off.

Further adding to the weirdness of last night is that Texas went straight up blue. One recipient of this historic wave was Nathan M. Johnson. Johnson has been serving as the state senator for Texas’ 16th district since 2018\. He won his race as Attorney General for Texas last night, and people were quick to remind the greater population outside of Texas that he had been one of many composers of the American dub of *Dragon Ball Z*, along with musicians such as Bruce Faulconer and Mark Menza.

If you are unaware of Dragon Ball’s dubbing history, there were often multiple English language versions of the shows and movies handled by different companies (the [Harmony Gold dub,](https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Harmony%5FGold%5Fdub?ref=aftermath.site) the “[Big Green](https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/AB%5FGroupe%5Fdub?ref=aftermath.site)” dub, [the Malaysian-English “Speedy” dub,](https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Speedy%5Fdub?ref=aftermath.site) and the Canadian [Ocean Group dubs](https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Ocean%5FGroup%5Fdubs?ref=aftermath.site)). The majority of modern dubs were handled by Funimation. Though it officially closed in 2024, it was mostly a Texas-based company, and Johnson got the gig when the owner of a building he was interested in renting for practicing law and music composition turned out to be Funimation co-founder Robert Cocanougher. Johnson specifically worked on the soundtrack to the Ultimate Uncut Editions of *Dragon Ball Z,* as well as several movies like *Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn* and *Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might*. He’s actually given multiple interviews to Dragon Ball blog [The Tao Of Dragon Ball](https://thedaoofdragonball.com/?ref=aftermath.site), which include a lot of gems like an [interview in 2017](https://thedaoofdragonball.com/blog/interviews/dragon-ball-senator-fights-for-texas/?ref=aftermath.site) where blogger Derek Padula asked “If a Dallas-based corporation created an all-consuming Tree of Might that destroyed the environment, but in the process created lots of energy and jobs, what would you do?” to which Johnson replied:

> I would blow up the tree. I would call Goku for help, and the small floating guy, Chaozu. We need his help as well. Different characteristics. That’s short-term thinking. If you think you’re going to create 20,000 jobs, but it destroys the environment, what are the jobs going to be in 10 years – pilling up all the bodies? You can’t think that way. We can’t pollute the environment. We have to be environmentally responsible.

Johnson then went on to give a very 2017 Texas Democrat answer where he extolled the benefits of a regulated natural gas industry and burning methane during the transition to green alternatives while also mentioning the seriousness of climate change. None of that is really surprising, it’s just a fairly amusing thing to read on a *Dragon Ball* blog from nine years ago.

Anyway, jeers to the losers of last night, and cheers to the winners, which include a shockingly diverse slate of candidates including Michigan’s Abdul El-Sayed, DSA-endorsed Washington DC mayor-elect Janeese Lewis George, Minnesota’ [Peggy Flanagan,](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/11/04/us/minnesota-senate-tafoya-flanagan.html?ref=aftermath.site) and Alabama’s [Allison Montgomery](https://www.advocate.com/politics/election/allison-montgomery-alabama-2026-midterms?ref=aftermath.site). And then for some reason the grandson of the guy who invented [chicken tendies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris%5FPappas%5F%28American%5Fpolitician%29?ref=aftermath.site), Chris Pappas, also won.

Neither Goku nor Master Chief could be reached for comment.
