Artist, designer and (disclaimer!) Aftermath logo creator Andrew Elmore has for the past three years been working on an absolutely monumental feat of video game history: a complete catalogue of every Namco Museum release, and as part of that, every game featured within.
This video goes for over two hours for a reason: Andrew isn't just comparing every Namco Museum release (compendiums of the company's classic back catalogue) of the last three decades, but after "researching, importing, interviewing, and studying with characteristic hyper-fixation" he walks us through each specific game in turn as well.
There's a lot to learn here! I, for example, had never seen Wonder Momo in action before, and am now in awe at the animation work found in a 1987 arcade game. Andrew describes his motivation for making the video as:
In 2023, I wanted to watch a deep dive video on every Namco Museum release. Not just one release or series, but all of them. 33 months later, I now know why no one else had done this before!
I've been researching, importing, interviewing, and studying with characteristic hyper-fixation to bring you the most thorough and comprehensive presentation that I possibly can!
This is quite literally the single largest creative project of my life. Could it be better? Of course! Don't think I don't still have pages of production notes for known shippables! But I can sleep soundly knowing I gave you the best I could.
Anyway, enough introductions, here's the video! Like I said, it goes for over two hours, so make yourself a cup of tea, get a cushion and settle in:
Amazingly, Andrew also made a soundtrack to the video, which is available on his Bandcamp page:
