Well, this is awkward. Call of Duty commentator Clint Evans, who goes by Maven in the esports community, announced Wednesday that he's stepping down from the Call of Duty League because he's dating his now-former shoutcasting partner's wife. Evans said he was close to Joe DeLuca (known as MerK) and his wife Maurisa, and after the couple divorced, Evans and her began dating.

"As some of you know, I was very close to my casting partner Joe and his family," Evans wrote on X. "Maurisa was one of my best friends. We remained friends, after they divorced, and along the way it became more than that and we started dating. "

He continued: "I understand how unconventional/taboo it is. It's truly not something I ever foresaw happening."

Deluca hasn't commented publicly on the situation, nor has the Call of Duty League. Aftermath has reached out to both for comment.

Evans and DeLuca have been commentating on Call of Duty together for years, even before the Call of Duty League began in 2020. A replacement for Evans hasn't been announced, nor has an official start date for the next Call of Duty League season. It's expected to begin in December. The Call of Duty League's first season debuted in 2020, following in the footsteps of Activision Blizzard's Overwatch League. It replaced the Call of Duty Pro League and Call of Duty World League. There are 12 teams that participate, eight of which are U.S.-based, two in Canada, and one each in France and Saudi Arabia.

Evans said he hopes to return to the Call of Duty League "one day."

"If not, it was a hell of a ride, and I appreciate the love over the years," Evans said. "Please continue to show support to Joe, the CDL, and its talent!"
